Feng Shui Decorating And Three Schools of Thought
One of the difficulties people experience with incorporating Feng Shui decorating into their homes is grasping that there are three different schools of thought on the subject. These different perspectives of Feng Shui can be traced back to an ancient master named Yang Yun Sang, who was a founding father of Feng Shui. He left behind many writings of these ancient principles.
In his teachings, Master Yang taught that every place on earth had a specific Chi that influenced everything and that they must be taken into account in our Feng Shui decorating. Understanding these three different schools of thought are important.
- Classical - The most traditional view of Feng Shui. The classical view includes the Compass School and the Landscape School. The traditional school includes the theories of Yin and Yang and the five elements of fire, water, wood, earth, and metal.
- Black Sect - A recent practice created by Master Thomas Lin Yun only 20 years ago. The school of thought combines Taoism, Tibetan and Chinese Buddhism, and Traditional Feng Shui. The Black Sect also incorporates elements of modery psychology and meditation.
- Western - This Modern or Intuitive school of thought favors western points of view over classical Chinese symbols. Western viewpoints on balancing Chi in a space are supported by the principles of the classical Feng Shui.
It is common to use a combination of these three schools in Feng Shui decorating. In fact, many interior designers and Feng Shui consultants use a mixture of these different school of Feng Shui philosophies. Ultimately, there are many different ways to use Feng Shui, regardless of the school or combination of schools chosen, to achieve the desire result of harmonious, positive energy flow in our homes.
